Yesterday my cousin died, she had cancer.. so it wasn't completely unexpected, but we thought we had more time with her. She was 47 years old and her daughter is just 14, I can only imagine the trauma she's going through right now. Her daughter is probably going to move in with our Aunt & Uncle, they are both retired but are willing to take her in as their own.
I remember being 14, I got into a lot of trouble at that age... my dad was always at work so I was virtually alone most of the time. I don't want for my little cousin to get into drugs and drinking.. and with the town that my aunt & uncle live in, it's almost positive that she will.. the only thing that would keep her from doing those things is my aunt & uncle's parenting. Given that they are great parental figures, and my aunt was a school teacher many years ago. Plus they raised something like 8 kids of their own... So I trust that they will instill good morals. I just hope that my little cousin doesn't follow the path her mother took in life..
As long as we've known her, my cousin that died yesterday has been bad into drugs. We were all a little surprised when she started coming around the family more about a year ago. Then about a month ago she told us that she had cervical cancer. My dad did everything he could for her, he was given power of attorney, and he visited her at least once a day and let her daughter stay with him for a few days.
Our family planned a get-together for close friends and family to come together this coming Saturday for my cousin. It was supposed to be like a way for everyone to say goodbye to her.... But she was found dead in her room yesterday, and so we will still get together on Sat, but I assume it will be a lot more sad. :(
